August 2024 meeting

Our next meeting will be held at Cafe Ibiza, formerly The Botany, in Maryhill Road, on Tuesday 6 August from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The agenda for the meeting is on our calendar.

Since the closure was announced of our former venue, Kelvinbridge Parish Church in Belmont Street, the Community Council has been trying out a number of venues as a replacement.

Last month Cafe Ibiza offered to host a Community Council meeting free of charge, which we accepted in good faith.

Since then we have received complaints from residents about Cafe Ibiza which concern excessively loud music, unlawful parking by staff and customers, and antisocial behaviour by customers.

Another complaint concerns the decking at the rear of the premises which was completed before an application for planning permission was discussed by the City Council and subsequently rejected. Enforcement action is apparently being considered (see Glasgow Live).

Community Councils are set up by statute to act on behalf of their area. North Kelvin Community Council will continue to do this and will not be influenced by where our meetings are held.

Our meetings are open to the public and we encourage all parts of the community to bring their concerns to us.

What conclusions were reached with the cafe Ibiza issue? I couldn’t make the meeting but I live nearby and have been affected by the various issues outlined for discussion.

Hi, we had a constructive discussion with residents and the Café’s owner & planning consultant. The City Council noise enforcement team have already visited and the level of noise has reduced. Enforcement action is under way re the unfinished terrace. Under the current licence the terrace must be closed by 10pm. A planning application is going to be resubmitted soon to the Council. Residents and the Community Council will have an opportunity to comment.
