Icy weather in North Kelvin

8 January 2025

During a cold snap we are all at risk if icy pavements are dangerous to walk on. Elderly and vulnerable people may be particularly affected. Sadly it’s not feasible for the City Council to grit all our roads and pavements.

There are grit bins throughout the area (see map below) that residents can use to help make pavements safer for us all to get out and about. Thank you to everyone who spreads a little grit joy when winter strikes!

Can you help?

Can you help out in a cold snap by spreading some grit to make the pavements safer? Your fellow residents will hugely appreciate it, you’ll save the NHS the potential cost of treating fractures and other injuries, and you’ll get a warm healthy glow from actively helping your community.

And don’t forget to check on your vulnerable neighbours when harsh weather sets in.

Where is your nearest grit bin?

The grit bins are marked in yellow on the map below. Click on the map to see more detail or to report a damaged or empty bin.
