NKCC health walk
The next walk will be to Elder Park on Saturday, 30 November 2024, across the new Partick/Govan bridge. This was orignally planned for the previous Saturday but was postponed because of the poor weather.
We hope you can join us! If you're not already on our walks mailing list but would like to keep updated, please contact NorthKelvinWalks@gmail.com.
Meeting point
Meet on Queen Margaret Bridge at the junction with Queen Margaret Road at 2pm, opposite our noticeboard.
About the walk
This will be one of the longer walks we have done: 7.9 km (4.9 miles). Participants can return to the West End by subway if they prefer.
We will cross several main roads: Great Western Road, Highburgh Road/University Avenue, Dumbarton Road and Govan Road, but all have signalised crossings.
Elder Park Library within the park is a striking building and has been recently refurbished.
On our walk we will see two of the three statues in Glasgow to commemorate women. We will also pass the Govan Old Kirk, which is a museum of Viking and other artefacts excavated from the site by archaeologists. A bit further west along Govan Road is Fairfield's, which is a museum of shipbuilding.
We will not have time to visit these, but they are worth a visit in your own time. If you want to take time to explore one or more of these please let us know on the day. Those who do so can make their own arrangements to return.
The route in detail
The route will be: QMD, Byres Road to Partick Cross, Cooper's Well St, Benalder St, Ferry Road, under the Expressway to the Riverside Museum, across the bridge into Water Row and then turn right along Govan Road to Elder Park.
We will return by the same route, but there is the option for some of taking the Subway from Govan Cross to Kelvin Hall, Hillhead or Kelvinbridge.

There is no need to book – you can just come along on the day.
