Our third walk of 2025 will be on Saturday 8 February. We will walk through Kelvingrove Park, skirting the park through the Sandyford and Woodlands areas, taking in some religious and historic buildings, mews lanes and other sites on the way.

Meeting point

Meet on Queen Margaret Bridge at the junction with Queen Margaret Road at 2pm, opposite our noticeboard.

About the walk

The route is about 5 km or 3 miles and should take 1¼ hours or so.

The route in detail

Start walking along Queen Margaret Drive, turn left at Hamilton Drive, then right onto Hamilton Park Avenue, cross Great Western Road at the lights and then carry onto Bank Street. The pavement is quite narrow here.

Along to cross the lights at Gibson Street and continue onto Kelvin Way before turning left into the park. Walk over the bridge and through the park to the fountain.

From the fountain to the gate, where we will cross to Kelvingrove Square and then along Royal Terrace, La Belle Place to the Hindu Mandir.

We will turn left uphill along Clifton Street and then right onto the mews lane Claremont Terrace Lane. We will follow this lane all the way to Woodlands Road (it becomes Woodside Terrace Lane further up). The ground here is uneven.

Onto Woodlands Road, we will cross at the lights by Sainsburys and continue to Ashley Street (via the Woodlands Community Garden) and then left at West Princes Street all the way up to Park Road, crossing at the lights and down to South Woodside Road, under Great Western Road (it can be slippery here), up to Henderson Street, Garriochmill Road, Striven Gardens, Doune Gardens, Doune Quadrant and back to the start on Queen Margaret Road.

Access/safety

The route is step-free but some areas are cobbled. There are some surfaces which may be uneven or slippery underfoot and some overhanging trees. We have to cross some roads.
