NKCC health walk 26 April
Walk destination on Saturday 26 April 2025: Garnethill.
Meeting point
Meet on Queen Margaret Bridge at the junction with Queen Margaret Road at 2pm, opposite our noticeboard.
About Garnethill
Garnethill is one of the few residential areas within the city centre and has a multicultural population. It is a relatively small area comprising three parallel streets running east/west along the spine of the hill, crossed by a number of streets running between Sauchiehall St and West Graham St.
It has a number of interesting buildings, and one ruin – the shell of the Mackintosh Building of Glasgow School of Art. The notable buildings are: The Tenement House, The Glasgow Jewish Heritage Centre (in the former Synagogue), Garnetbank Primary School, other Glasgow School of Art buildings, St Aloysius College, St Aloysius Church, St Andrew's RC Church (which still celebrates mass in Latin), Garnethill Community Park, Garnethill Multicultural Community Centre and Margaret Macdonald House, the former Glasgow Girl's high school building, now student residences. Margaret Macdonald was the wife of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and a significant artist in her own right.
