Meeting point

Meet on Queen Margaret Bridge at the junction with Queen Margaret Road at 2pm, opposite our notice board.

About the walk

The Partick/Govan Bridge is opened formally on 6 September. On 7 September there is a music festival in the Water Row area of Govan Cross to mark the Bridge opening. The section of Govan Road in the area will be closed to traffic. Some participants might want to spend some time at the Festival and have the option of returning to the West End by subway from Govan Cross to Hillhead or Kelvinbridge at a time of their choosing.

Route detail

The route to Govan is via Queen Margaret Drive, Byres Road and Church St, where we go through the new section of University campus on the former Western Infirmary site to Argyle St opposite the Kelvin Hall.

However, as there are building works, we might have to continue down Church St to Dumbarton Road. After crossing Argyle St/Dumbarton Road we cross the Kelvin at Partick Bridge and go down Bunhouse Road (between the Kelvin Hall and the river) to Old Dumbarton Road. We turn right and, at Benalder St junction, we cross into Ferry Road. We go left down Ferry Road and under the railway, where we turn right and head under the Expressway to the Riverside Museum and the new bridge. The distance to there is 3.65km (1.65 miles).

For those who opt to walk back, the route will be: retrace our steps to Ferry Road, then left into Benalder St and right into Cooper's Well St, across Dumbarton Road and then up Byres Road and QMD.

Some participants might want to spend time at the festival and can return to the west by subway to Hillhead or Kelvinbridge.
