NKCC health walk

The next walk will be on Saturday, 9 November 2024, and will go to Ruchill Park. On this occasion we will be accompanied by Alexandra Jackson, who is one of Glasgow's countryside rangers who has responsibility for greenspace and biodiversity.

Meeting point

Meet on Queen Margaret Bridge at the junction with Queen Margaret Road at 2pm, opposite our noticeboard.

About the walk

We will go to the park via Queen Margaret Drive and Bilsland Drive and will enter the park at the gate on Bilsland Drive adjacent to the junction with Murano St. We have used this route on a previous occasion. We have to cross Maryhill Road at a busy junction, but it has signals. The footway on Bilsland Drive, especially beneath the canal aqueduct, is fairly narrow and the light level is low, so we will walk in single file for a short distance.

We will leave the route within the park for Alexandra to decide.

We will leave the park at the gate at the top of Firhill Road and will go down Firhill Road and join the canal towpath at the student residences. We go under the Nolly Brig and head west along the towpath. At the footbridge opposite Maryhill Fire Station we will leave the towpath, cross Maryhill Road and go along the street between the Fire Station and Cafe Ibiza to Kelvinside and through the opening and on to Kelvinside Avenue. We go down the avenue to return to QMD.
