NKCC health walk to Gilshochill
Our Chrimbo-limbo walk will be to Gilshochill on Saturday, 28 December 2024.
Meeting point
Meet on Queen Margaret Bridge at the junction with Queen Margaret Road at 2pm, opposite our noticeboard.
About the walk
We will go to Gilshochill (known to its residents as Gilshie). Gilshochill is one of three adjacent districts in north-west Glasgow which have been long separated by the Forth and Clyde Canal and with few direct routes between them. However, the opening of the Stockingfield Bridge has remedied that. We have walked in the Ruchill area on several occasions and North Kelvin is part of Greater Maryhill, so Gilschochill is new territory.
The route
The route is QMD, Clouston St, North Kelvin Meadow, Kelbourne St, Northumberland St, Avenuepark St, Maryhill Road, Shakespeare St, canal towpath to Stockingfield Bridge. We cross the bridge and descend a set of steps on the left and join the towpath on the other side of the canal (there is a step-free alternative).
This leads to a footpath (steeply uphill) to Campbell St in Gilshochill. We turn left and go along to Sandbank St and turn left and follow the road to the junction with Maryhill Road. We turn left and continue along Maryhill Road to Queen Margaret Drive and back to the start.
The walk is 2.8 miles (4.6 km).
