Route details

We will walk across Queen Margaret Drive, along Kelvin Drive to the sloped path down to the Kelvin Walkway. From there we will walk along the river to the Friends of the River Kelvin building, turning right.

We will walk along the right hand side of the river, under Kirklee Bridge, up the slope to the path past the Wyndford high flats, along the river to Kelvindale Road.

Here we will cross the bridge and walk along the left hand side of the river up to the canal towpath at the Aqueduct.

We will go right at the aqueduct and along the canal, past the Maryhill Locks and Stockingfield Bridge, continuing along the canal until Ruchill Street where we will walk down to Maryhill Road.

We will cross onto Shakespeare Street, turning onto Garrioch Road, then Clouston Street before ending the walk on Queen Margaret Drive.

Access/safety

The route is all on paths or pavements and is step free (although there are some kerbs without dropped edges).

There are some gradual climbs (the steepest being from the Aqueduct past the Maryhill Locks). There are some surfaces which may be uneven underfoot and some overhanging trees. We have to cross some roads.

Please dress for the weather and you may wish to bring drinking water.

There are cafes on Queen Margaret Drive where we start and end, and public toilets nearby in the Botanic Gardens.
