Route details

We will go up Queen Margaret Drive and cross at the lights, turn right and go to Kelbourne St. Turn left and continue past North Kelvin Meadow and then right into Northumberland St and left into Hotspur St. At the end of Hotspur St, we turn right into Garrioch Road and then almost immediately, turn right again into Shakespeare St. Continue to Maryhill Road and cross opposite the Viking pub and join the canal towpath just past Ruchill Church.

Turn left under the bridge and continue to Stockingfield Bridge. When we cross the bridge we go straight ahead (not the right turn towards the viewpoint). This takes us to the canal towpath which is parallel to Lochburn Road. We continue along this for about 1.5 km (1 mile).

We go under the bridge at Balmore Road and Lambhill Stables is on the left up the slope.

Lambhill Stables has a cafe, which will be open until 4 pm. It also has grounds at the rear with some interesting sculpture, some pleasant garden spaces and some fine views to the north.

We might spend a bit of time here before we return by the same route along the towpath.

There is an alternative route back using Balmore Road and Bilsland Drive. It is the same distance, but along major roads. However, it is a route which will reveal another part of the city and connect to parts of previous walks to Possil and Ruchill Park.

Please dress for the weather and you may wish to bring drinking water.
